The Heron Chair, like its wading-bird namesake, is a bit of an engineering marvel. It arms flow upward into a beak shape at the top of sling-back seat that, it seems at first glance, might tip back if you sat in it. In fact, the Heron Chair is designed to cantilever over the water after being bolted to a dock, or where appropriate, bolted to a deck. The chair takes up less than 14” when bolted to a dock. “I wanted to design one that would take up as little room as possible and look good,” furniture designer and renowned portrait artist Fielding Archer said. “This one can be bolted down right to the edge” of a dock, patio or deck. Archer is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Fine Arts with a degree in painting and printmaking. His impressionist – style portraits have been commissioned by numerous businesses and famous families. His dock furniture is unique, simple, and functional. Made from stainless steel it is designed to last a lifetime.
